Ovens Planned Burning Program update from Ben Merritt

Planned burns have commenced, Ovens District have ignited one at Tawonga German Creek and another Mount Big Ben.

Intentions are to keep lighting with understanding of consequences to community and vignerons.

Potential burns over the next week are located Carboor, Leneva and Wooragee.

Once a burn is scheduled, it will commence the Planned Burns Victoria app SMS / email alerts series.

I would encourage everybody to find out when and where planned burns are happening near you by signing up at www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226.

Weather can often be predicted only a few days ahead, so there is no way of knowing in advance how many days in the year will be suitable to carry out planned burns.

Weather conditions can cause plans to change at the last minute and a burn may not go ahead, even if you have already been notified that it will.

If we do reschedule a burn, our crews will continue to monitor the conditions and we will re-schedule the burn for a later date when the conditions become appropriate.
